Scouting for Clients: Local Leads

I’m spending today drawing up a list of ideal clients. I’m generally very happy with my current work and clients, but it’s always a good idea to expand your client base. While I work with companies and individuals around the world, I am keen to get involved with local organisations and events, so I was interested to read a post on All Freelance Writing about ways to look for local clients that you may not have thought of.
There is an entire category of posts entitled Finding Work, but you can read the specific post here.
I’m particularly drawn to #12 – maybe they’ll pay me in cake? 😉
Do you have a strategy for finding new clients? Perhaps you prefer to work with agencies? Let me know in the comments!
